During the Great War, Vignacourt was an important logistical site for the French army and its allies. Louis and Antoinette Thuillier, photography enthusiasts, were to photograph soldiers from the world over who were passing through their farm. In 2010, the Australian television channel, Channel Seven, discovered 4,000 photographic plates in the farm’s attic. The French and Australian authorities, aware of the exceptional nature and historical value of the collection, wished to share it with the public.
Vignacourt 14-18 and its interpretation centre welcome you to the renovated farm, which is dedicated to displaying the Thuillier collection. A portrait exhibition tells of life behind the lines, a story full of humanity, where a simple story reveals much about our own story.

For the visit’s grand finale, you will discover three photographs during a unique immersive experience thanks to Overlap Reality® developed by SkyBoy, which improves the effects of Augmented Reality.

This particular digital project involves plunging the visitors in to three immersive, 360°, geo-localised videos. Each three-minute video takes place in the museum’s courtyard. These historically accurate reconstructions that bring these soldiers back to life depict the moments before Antoinette Thuillier took each photograph. A final, present-day video offers a message of hope for current and future generations
